Patricia Briggs is wonderfully reliable – in the most fantastic way. Throughout the entire Mercedes Thompson books we have shared the danger, the confusion, and the steadfast loyalty that gives such a solid foundation to what is one of my all time favourite series. Silver Borne was just as wonderful as past books and really …. intensely ….romantic. It doesn’t have lovey-dovey or hot and sexy scenes, but what permeates the book is a rock solid foundation of the love and loyalty between Mercy and Adam.
That’s what I mean. It’s not sentimental, it’s not erotic, but there are moments of such honesty and intensity between Mercy and Adam that are so wonderfully touching that I just want to melt. But this being Mercy, it’s inevitable that the machinations of the paranormal community will intrude on her and draw her into danger and mystery, which is where Patty Brigg’s skills at creating tight plots come to the fore. We’re swept up in the search by the fae for an artifact, possibly a book Mercy borrowed, but all we know for sure is that the fae are willing to kill to get it. Most characters from past books play a role, with the exception of Stefan (it seems that the vampires are getting a short break) but of all subsidiary characters it is Samuel we are most concerned with. In fact the only jarring note for me in the book was the way a possible solution to Samuel’s isolation came about. However as Patricia Briggs is juggling plot developments, relationship developments, consistency with prior books and a whole range of different characters, I can certainly forgive her for being too abrupt in this instance. Silver Borne was very much Mercy’s story and the focus was Adam’s pack accepting her as their Alpha’s mate and trying to survive the attacks by the fae. It is also the story of families and friends. I think that Mercy sums it up best,
Really, I want an Adam of my own and Mercy as my best friend! |
